Most Anticipated Releases of May

By Thursday, May 01, 2014

May means the end of summer, at least for us Filipinos. It's the start of the crazy wet season, which means more rain and cold nights. And what's the coziest way to spend your cold nights? Cuddling with good books, and a mug or two of hot coffee (or whatever hot beverage you prefer). So here is my most anticipated releases for the month of May. Some of the books I've been anticipating for half a year!

After the End (After the End #1)
by Amy Plum
May 6 - Release Date

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

This sounds so exciting. It reminds me of The Village. I've never really liked the film. I watched it when I was so young, that I never really understood it. But now I think it's fascinating. And interesting. After the End is too.

May 6 - Release Date

The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell. But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just... disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try... unless they could lead back to her best friend. Apple Picking at Night? Ok, easy enough.Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not? Kiss a Stranger? Wait... what?

Another Morgan Matson book! *squeals* I've been a fan ever since reading Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. I believe I made an embarrassing review of that book. I love the themes in Morgan Matson's book. And it's full of adventures! Since You've Been Gone is definitely a looker, from its awesome cover to its promise of adventure.

Secrets and Lies (Truth or Dare #2)
by Jacqueline Green
May 6 - Release Date

Tenley Reed and Sydney Morgan have never seen eye to eye -- until now. United by a common goal, they are determined to find out who was behind their friend's murder. Joined by Emerson Cunningham, a gorgeous but troubled teen model, the girls start their own investigation. But in the isolated beach town of Echo Bay, it's hard to know who's a friend and who's an enemy.

Secrets and Lies picks up a month after what happened in Truth or Dare. It's really getting exciting. Who's the killer? Who sends the notes? We're really eager to know. And we hope to pick up new clues in this book. Expect more twists and turns!

May 6 - Release Date

The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen. America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

I can't believe this is the last book in the series! Who will America end up with? Maxon or Aspen. I'm team Maxon all the way. I would be totally bummed if she didn't end up with him. Wow. May 6 is looking good. 4 awesome books in one day? Hell, yeah!

Curses and Smoke: A Novel of Pompeii
by Vicky Alvear Shecter
May 27 - Release Date

When the two childhood friends reconnect, each with their own longings, they fall passionately in love. But as they plot their escape from the city, a patrician fighter reveals his own plans for them -- to Lucia's father, who imprisons Tag as punishment. Then an earthquake shakes Pompeii, in the first sign of the chaos to come. Will they be able to find each other again before the volcano destroys their whole world?

I've always been curious about Pompeii. I've been searching any book that features it. That's what made me put this book in my TBR on goodreads. Oh, and there's a movie about Pompeii too. The original cover was a similar to he movie poster. I'm glad they changed it.

May 27 - Release Date

Quincy and Biddy are both graduates of their high school’s special ed program, but they couldn’t be more different: suspicious Quincy faces the world with her fists up, while gentle Biddy is frightened to step outside her front door. When they’re thrown together as roommates in their first "real world" apartment, it initially seems to be an uneasy fit. But as Biddy’s past resurfaces and Quincy faces a harrowing experience that no one should have to go through alone, the two of them realize that they might have more in common than they thought — and more important, that they might be able to help each other move forward.

You know what song goes well with this book? Crazy by Au Revoir Simone. Girls Like Us also reminds me of Roomies by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando. I'm giving this book a try because I feel like I can relate to this.

Those are my most anticipated book releases for the month of May. If you find these books interesting, be sure to add them on goodreads.
